Our first night in Rovinj was not as we’d expected. We’d booked two nights in Casa Cerin and clearly hadn’t done our usual amount of research, as we left the next morning. You can see my review on Booking.com, so the least said about it here, the better.
Having discovered the beautiful historic centre of Rovinj, we were determined to find somewhere right in the heart, rather than a good 20-25 minute walk away – and we found Amaryllis, perfectly located about 5 minutes from the main square and harbour and housed within a very traditional, old shuttered Croatian building, on the top floor.
Marko and Eleni, the young couple who own Amaryllis, met us and walked us to their apartment, giving us lots of top tips about Rovinj on the way. One thing you would need to be aware of if you booked Amaryllis, is that whilst it is very, very pretty, it is also very, very small. We were only staying one night and it was perfect for us – a longer stay in Rovinj would, I think, necessitate a bit more space and perhaps a balcony. However, you cannot deny is is beautiful and Marko & Eleni have certainly thought about the space, especially in the bathroom. It is possibly the smallest bathroom we’ve ever had, BUT, it does not feel cramped becasue of the way it has been designed – and the shower, once you’re in it, is actually quite large and powerful. Furnishings are very tasteful, colours are very relaxing and the bed is just wonderfully comfortable. There is a very small kitchen facility – with a sink and a hob and the cupboard is well stocked with essentials. There are also very thoughtful touches such as coffee, fruit, water and a complimentary welcoming bottle of wine. Much appreciated!
We found Amaryllis via Booking.com, but it is also available on Air BnB. We would highly recommend this apartment for a short stay, based on its location, its cleanliness, its cuteness and its price. Although we walked away from the other acommodation, and therefore lost the second night’s money, we had absolutely no problem with the price of approximately £70 for Amaryllis. Well worth it, to be right in the heart of historical Rovinj. (Good, strong wifi is also available – another bonus).
