If there’s one thing that Copenhagen isn’t short of, it’s independent eateries. Vesterbro, Norrebro, Frederiksburg and Paper Island, in particular, are full of them. But a real stand out place is Torvehallerne, a food/market hall located in Frederiksburg. It’s a modern glass construction, but laid out, design-wise, so well inside. The independent foodie places all have their own area and it’s no exaggeration to say you can source every style of cuisine and dietary requirement to suit your tastes/needs. The Danes just do this kind of thing so well. Needless to say, my ultimate favourite was an Italian outlet – simple fresh pasta, made in front of you, no fuss sauce & crisp wine wine. Perched on high stools, at the bar like counter, it was just bellisimo!
Every single outlet is stylish. So well designed. So well laid out. Always functional – but beautiful. And with signage using the kind of fonts that make us drool! Outside of the internal eating area, is a more of a market space, given over to a riot of colour of fruit, vegetables and fresh flowers.
Torvehallerne KBH is open from 10am every morning (11am Sunday) and until 7pm Mon-Thu, 8pm Friday, 7pm Saturday and 5pm Sunday.
