We are very excited that visits out here are being planned already for 2018 by family and friends. If you’d like to come out to Istria, here’s where we are currently:
18th – 22nd April – booked
22nd – 29th May – booked
29th May – 5th June TBC
30th June – 4th July – booked
This is a genuine invitation to family and friends to come out & visit. Until our website is done, information can be found on Twitter – www.twitter.com/
The nearest airports to us are Pula (Croatia) & Ljubljana (Slovenia) – we’d collect you. Skyscanner are starting to load up summer flights, and you can usually get good deals from Manchester, although other airports do have flights out to Pula and Ljubljana too.
Venice is good too – and you can transfer aross to us on a ferry to Rovinj or Porec, ensuring you arrive in style! We can also collect you if you opt for the ferry as both Adriatic towns are close to us.
We have an insured car for visitors so no car hire hassle. It’s a little Fiat Punto runaround, but very reliable and economical. Friends used it last year, with no problems. Roads in Istria are very quiet, even the toll roads – but there’s no real need to use the motorways as getting around the peninsula is very easy and taking the smaller roads means you get to see some amazing sights. If you want to get out & explore, without us, you will need to use the car, as public transport, where we are in northern Istria, is virtually non-existent.
We are very close to Itay & Slovenia, as well as northern Croatian islands, so great exploring options. All you need are your driving licenses and passports. Your passport will only be needed for Croatia into Slovenia (and vice versa) because Croatia isn’t yet a part of the Schengen Agreement. There are no passport controls between Slovenia and Italy. (To get to Italy though, it is necesary to go through a tiny part of Slovenia).
Croatia’s currency is the Kuna – exchange rate is currently (Feb 18) 9 Kunas to the £. Some places do accept Euros, but best to deal in Kunas for meals etc. All major bank/credit cards accepted. ATMs are all over the place.
If you wanted to find out more about the area to see if you think it’d be right for you, we’d suggest googling places such as Grožnjan, Motovun, Rovinj, Pula, Opatija, Brjuni Island, Pula…
There is plenty of room for you to come & go. We have two double guest bedrooms, and two bathrooms (which will hopefully both have been fully renovated by summer 2018). The kitchen is currently being renovated so should be super equipped for visits – we have the usual things like dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer etc. There is lots of outside space for sunbathing, lounging & relaxing – although please note, NO swimming pool as yet. If you’ve been following our adventures, you’ll know that getting fixed line internet has been the bane of our lives! It’s still not sorted, BUT we have 4G internet which is generally strong – although it can be affected by adverse weather. Obviously 4G is not as brilliant as fixed line, so you just need to be aware that there can be moments of frustration 😉 We don’t have a UK TV package at the moment – that will come when do get fixed line internet – but the package we have does suffice with plenty of football (all Premier League & European), films, some English programmes etc.
If this has whetted your appetite, get in touch if you fancy a visit – firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to see you 🙂
