Previous years have seen us getting away from West Didsbury and largely exploring Italy, Spain and Greece, with some nice city breaks in between. This year – summer 2017 – has seen us doing a very different kind of a holiday.
Firstly, it was a very strange feeling booking outward flights TO Manchester from Pula and the return flight in reverse. It was odd checking in with people who had done their two weeks’ holiday and were returning “home”, whereas we were just starting our two week holiday. We left The House on a morning where the temperature was already rising and the sky was azure blue. A few hours later, we landed in Manchester, under grey clouds, drizzle and a noticeable drop in temperature. Happy holidays 😉
One of the main reasons for us to come back was to see family and we spent a few glorious days in the North East. Ironcially, having the best weather! Family is private, so no personal snaps, but we did get some photos as we drove back across the northern Pennines towards Manchester…
Arriving back in West Didsbury was very, very strange – we felt as if we’d just been away for a long weekend, but we left, in fact on February 23rd, some five and a half months earlier. I think because we still work design-wise with a lot of West Didsbury businesses, and we’re still very active on our Didsbury Life Twitter account, we still feel very connected and know what is going on. So, we knew about businesses who were moving on, new businesses coming into the area, the amazing new street art work etc…
We were also super happy that we got to go to Joe’s last night at Pinchjo’s and so managed to see a lot of friends who we might otherwise have missed. However, looking back on our “holiday photos”, a similar theme seems to run through them. One of the things we do miss in our new home, is the variety of cuisines on our doorstep. Don’t get us wrong – food is AMAZING here, but if you like a real variety, you need to travel quite a distance to get it. True story – we recently travelled to Ljubljana to satisfy our curry craving 😉 So, in the absence of sunshine, food figures very highly in our holiday snaps…

We even managed to squeeze in a very nice final meal at our our stop-over at The Radisson Blu, Manchester Airport before heading back to The Land of Truffles…
We also had a lovely companion in West Didsbury – Trevor, the cat. Trevor was very clever and even helped us with some design work 😉
All in all, our back to front holiday in West Didsbury was fab – although next year, we might do a guaranteed sunshine break in August and revisit West Didsbury in the colder months, when we expect nothing less than rain 😉
