Our Christmas travels took us all over England, as we visited family and friends. It was a very different Christmas holiday this year, as we were constantly on the go, moving from one place to another. Eventually that takes its toll and so we decided to call time, and be settled, and be somewhere for a couple of days where we didn’t have to leave the house. And that’s where The Studio in the Garden, in the heart of the Peak District, came into its own. As usual, I turned to Booking.com (I am NOT paid by them, I just find this website very, very good for our particular needs) and found this super cute studio, with availability.
Warslow is about 45 minutes away from Didsbury, but could be a world away. It’s very remote, and when we were there, was shrouded in a blanket of fog, making it even more atmospheric. The Studio is easy to find – Warslow is tiny. It’s tucked behind the main cottage (which is also available to rent, but was booked when we needed it, which is a shame, because this one has a bath – always a treat when you’re travelling), and is a proper studio. It’s one room really, but cleverly designed with a kitchen area, a seating area with a TV and a big comfy bed. The bathroom is small but perfectly well formed and more than adequate.
As most of our Christmas to this point had involved eating out, we stocked up at the supermarket and once we arrived at The Studio, we locked the door and didn’t leave until we checked out, three days later. A perfect bit of R&R.

Great bit of steampunk action…

Nice touch – a complimentary bottle of wine

View from the kitchen…

Xmas chocolates, a comfy bed & a series about Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Perfect.

A pop of colour…
The property has great wi-fi, although for phone calls you may have to stand by the door to get coverage. There is a garden area/patio, which in the summer must be beautiful, but we didn’t want to really leave the warmth and investigate it in the cold and fog 😉 The studio is well equipped – although because of its size, the kitchen especially, comes in miniature. There is a portable hob – small, but perfectly adequate, meaning that we could knock up a risotto and a pasta meal – and the fridge is a work top one, so not too much room. Although it was so cold, we could leave most things outside.
So, our verdict…
The Studio in the Garden is perfect for two. And even more perfect if you just want a few days away from it all – and then be able to get back to the bright lights of West Didsbury, when you’ve had your country fix 😉
